IT’S UNLIKELY TO go down as a classic but Clare supporters won’t care after their side secured promotion to Division 3 with victory over Antrim in Creggan today.
Despite what was at stake for the Banner, neither side seemed to want to trouble the scoreboard operators with Clare kicking no fewer than 12 wides and a solitary Martin O’Leary point in the opening 25 minutes.

Their lead was four points to no score entering first half stoppage time but James Laverty and Thomas McCann’s scores ensured the half-time score was a slightly more respectable 0-4 to 0-2.
The second half was better from both sides with Podge Collins coming on for Clare and scoring two points as they secured promotion from the bottom tier at the fourth attempt having lost out in 2010, 2012 and 2013 on the final day of the season.
Elsewhere, three late goals from Wicklow was enough to give them a surprise win over Division 4 table toppers Tipperary but it was all in vain given the result in Creggan. However, their 4-12 to 0-22 victory should provide a nice springboard for the Championship.
Leitrim ran out narrow winners over London in Ruislip having trailed for large periods of the game while Waterford beat Carlow in the Division’s dead rubber.
